Nuria Parrizas-Diaz v Ana Konjuh Head to Head

This will be the first career meeting between Nuria Parrizas Diaz ranked 79th in the rankings against World No. 143 Ana Konjuh.

Half-Decent Start to 2023 for Spaniard

Nuria Parrizas-Diaz is 6-5 for the season, but the Spaniard has played quite well in most of her defeats this season. She recorded her best result at Grand Slam by reaching the third round of this year’s Australian Open.

At 18/5 she shocked one of the dark horses to win the event in Beatriz Haddad Maia in the first round, doing so in straight sets. And as if to prove that win was no fluke, she managed to reprise that result by knocking out Russia’s Anastasia Potapova in the next round.

Her campaign ended at the third hurdle, losing to resurgent Donna Vekic in straight sets. Since then, Parrizas Diaz lost to Anna Bondar in Lyon and more recently to Maria Sakkari in Linz.

The 31-year-old is currently 30 spots below her career-high ranking, but her best tennis should give her the edge against Ana Konjuh in the first round of the Merida Open.

Konjuh Qualifies for Merida Main Draw

Ana Konjuh had a comfortable second-round of qualifying match in comparison to her first. She defeated 25-year-old Aliona Bolsova 6-2 6-3 and will be playing in the main draw of the WTA tournament for just the second time this season.

Konjuh needed 63 minutes to beat her Spanish opponent Bolsova, winning 25 out of 27 first-serve points and converting three of her four break points.

The Croatian big-hitter also won a generous amount of return points, over 40%, and her serve was not under threat during the whole match.

Konjuh did not play a lot of tennis in the past month, losing the Australian Open qualies and only returning to play in Lyon. Her low ranking also means she doesn’t get to play in the main draw more frequently without having to go through the rigors of qualifying.

Parrizas-Diaz v Konjuh Prediction and Tip

On her day, this match would have been on Konnjuh’s racket. But the Croatian is so unpredictable these days and she can barely maintain her fitness for over a long stretch. We reckon the Spaniard has a small edge here.
