Kimberly Birrell v Anna Bondar Head to Head

They never played before.

Birrell Qualifies with Two Strong Wins

Kimberly Birrell started this year really well down under and she hopes to see that success continue when she moves outside of Australia. She’s already up to 17 matches this year which is much more than the average and she won the majority of them (12).

To get into the main draw, Birrell won two matches and both of them were in straight sets. She’s showing a very high level on the hard courts and if she keeps this up, she will be rather quickly in the top 100.

She played in Mexico last week as well making her way to the quarter-final. The week before that Birrell won an ITF event in Orland so she’s been in really strong form for a while. I don’t see it changing in this one because she does face a player that doesn’t play as well on hard courts.

She will need to play well obviously and her aggressive playstyle and familiarity with the conditions at this event will be crucial.

Bondar’s First Match in Mexico

It will be quite an adjustment for Bondar this week as she will play outdoors which is very different compared to her last event which was indoors. Bondar is generally a solid hardcourt player but most f her wins come indoors. S

Her preferred surface is clay and that’s not likely going to change for a while. Her timing can be off on hard courts and her game is more vulnerable, especially if she plays a player that is far more adept at playing on hard courts.

That’s what she faces in this matchup and it will be tough. 2023 so far hasn’t been that good as she’s 3-4 on the year so far.

She can win this match but she will need to play well and serve well most importantly. Birrell will attack her so how she handles that pressure will determine how this match goes.

Birrell v Bondar Prediction and Tip

This is a rather close one on paper but there are a lot of things that benefit Birrell in this one. She’s better on hard courts and in better form so I’ll back her to win.
