Yafan Wang v Sofia Kenin Head to Head

This is the first time that the two players are meeting on the tour.

Kenin Seeking her Second Title of the Career

Kenin, who made her debut in the top 100 as recently as last year, has so far had a brilliant season. Earlier this year, she won the Hobart International after defeating the likes of Caroline Garcia, Kirsten Flipkens, and Alize Cornet. Then, she reached the third round in Dubai last week, where she lost to Viktoria Kuzmova.

As for her run in Acapulco, she has been quite exceptional, starting with easy wins over Rebecca Peterson and Katie Boulter. In the quarterfinal, she met the two-time Grand Slam winner Victoria Azarenka and defeated her in three sets. This was, by far, one of the most impressive performances by the young American.

In the semifinal, Kenin defeated Bianca Andreescu 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 to reach the second final of this season. She is currently the World No. 35 – her best singles ranking yet.

Wang Looking Mighty Determined

While on one hand, Kenin has been playing some brilliant tennis, Wang too has had a couple of interesting spells this year.

To begin with, she reached the semifinal in Shenzhen where she was defeated by Aryna Sabalenka. After a rather early exit in the Australian Open, she played in Hua Hin where she was a quarterfinalist.

Considering her campaign in Acapulco, she didn’t drop even a single set up until the semifinal against Donna Vekic. Wang lost the first set to the young Croat but managed to stage a comeback and defeat the third seed with 2-6, 6-3, 6-1. Also, her second round match against Monica Puig was cut short early when the Puerto Rican retired in the first set.

This is Wang’s first singles final on the WTA Tour.

Yafan Wang v Sofia Kenin Tips & Predictions

The two ladies have been quite impressive through the week in Acapulco. However, Kenin will start this one as the favorite to win, given her recent form and momentum. At the same time, Wang has the confidence to truly go the distance here and can very well take this to three sets.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 11/8 (Betway)
