Alex Molcan v Hugo Dellien Head to Head

They played once so far and Molcan was able to win that match in two sets. It was played at the 2021 Prostejov challenger in conditions far more to the liking of Molcan than Dellien.

Molcan Ends Losing Streak

Alex Molcan has been on a losing streak before he played the first round here. He was a bit lucky with the draw getting a player who hasn’t played at all at the ATP Tour and he proved better than winning comfortably. It’s a match that should give him confidence moving forward because he’s not been playing up to his level.

He can do far more, especially on clay which is his favourite and best surface. He was 17-10 on the surface last year and 43-14 the year he bested Dellien in Prostejov. This year the score is only 2-5 and that’s simply not good for a player whose talent is good enough for the top 30-40 in the world.

Working with the former coach of Djokovic is also something many points out should help him but so far it hasn’t been going that well. He plays differently than Djokovic so maybe that is giving Vajda some trouble.

Molcan likes to attack and he’s very aggressive opting to finish off points on his own terms. Sometimes it works but sometimes he can play himself out of a match as well.

Dellien Smashes Sousa

Hugo Dellien had a tough time through the pandemic unable to find a really good rhythm but the Bolivian player is finally back to playing some really good tennis. Clay is his favourite surface and you won’t find him winning much outside of those courts.

The score in 2023 is 9-4 and all of those wins came on clay. He’s 9-3 on the surface there and that’s in line with his 13-16 record from a year ago. When he played Molcan in 2021, he wasn’t playing that well and he was barely any challenge.

This match will come more on Dellien’s terms as he plays on the slower South American clay. He’s also in better form lately with some impressive wins on clay. It’s not like he’s been playing some player who never played tennis before.

His game is a tricky one as he gets many balls back and defends really well but can attack the counter. It’s not a game that Molcan will enjoy all that much.

Molcan v Dellien Prediction and Tip

Molcan’s best easily defeats Dellien’s best but the problem is that he’s not playing his best. Not even close and that’s something he will need to overcome. Dellien is playing better at the moment and I like the value on backing him to win.
