De Minaur Targets Another Deep Run

Alex De Minaur has started the season pretty well and if he keeps this level up, he will definitely re-enter the world’s top 20 in the coming weeks.

De Minaur performed admirably at the United Cup where he defeated Spain’s Rafael Nadal in three sets – inarguably the best win of his career despite Nadal’s mounting injury problems.

Although Australia’s campaign ended early in the team competition, the Aussies still had plenty to cheer for their man in Melbourne.

De Minaur was the lone Australian to reach the second week of this year’s Australian Open where he bowed out to eventual champion Novak Djokovic.

In his first tournament outside home territory, De Minaur reached the quarterfinal in Rotterdam and was within a point of knocking Grigor Dimitrov, but spurned two match points to lose in a third-set tiebreak.

Ritschard Too Good for Andujar

Alexander Ritschard picked up the third Tour-level win of his career. He defeated Spain’s clay-court specialist Pablo Andujar 7-5 6-3 in an hour and 27 minutes.

After a successful and strong qualifying campaign, Ritschard overcame an early wobble to dominate the first set, breaking Andujar’s serve twice.

In the second set, the two players exchanged breaks early on, but the Spaniard was unable to match the Swiss’ aggression and rally tolerance. Andujar’s first-serve points won deteriorated massively in the second set, allowing Ritschard to grab the crucial break in the sixth game.

The 28-year-old needed five match points to close out the win. Ritschard has never advanced beyond this stage, having lost the last time he made the Round of 16 at his home tournament in Gstaad.

De Minaur v Ritschard Prediction and Tip

While it’s never ideal to play an opponent who has had sufficient matches at a tournament before taking to the court, De Minaur should not face too many obstacles here. He played tidy tennis in Rotterdam and we expect the Aussie to go full throttle in Marseille.
