Guido Pella v Christian Garin Head to Head

These two have never played each other before this meeting in Sao Paulo.

Pella Yet to Drop a Set

It has been a marvellous run for the third seeded, world number 48, who has been on the circuit for 12 years now as a pro. After a first round bye, the Argentine has yet to drop a set having beaten Roberto Carballés Baena in the second round, Marco Trugelliti in the quarter-finals and Laslo Dere in the semi-finals.

Out of these three, Dere proved to be a tough match and that was to be expected given Dere’s recent form. And yet, Pella held his nerve and battled past the Serbian to register a 7-6, 7-6 victory in the last-four encounter.

The one thing that might hold Pella back, apart from giving his opponent some confidence going into this final is the fact that the Argentine has made it to four previous finals and won none of them.

Garin Aiming to be the First…

….yep, first Chilean in nearly 10 years to win an ATP title. And it would be a huge achievement for the 22-year-old who is ranked 92nd in the world at the moment and never, before this, even featured in an ATP final.

Interestingly, Garin has had his moments on the junior circuit, having also beaten Alexander Zverev, to win the French Open juniors title. Unfortunately for him, his seniors career hasn’t gone too far.

Since his first win on the circuit, it has taken him six more years to add another one but for him to now have gone nearly the distance is a big win by itself. Can he make it all the way though?

Pella v Garin Tips & Predictions

Pella’s experience and superior play in this tournament makes him heavy favourite to win this one in straight sets.

Tip: Pella to win 2-0: 5/4 (bet365)
