Alexander Zverev v Jiri Lehecka Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two and that came in the United Cup earlier this year. Lehecka had routed the returning Zverev in straight sets.

Zverev Still Struggling to Find Form

Since returning from his injury that he suffered last season at the French Open, Zverev has not been at his best. And understandably so. The kind of injury he suffered, and then had to subsequently get operated upon, it does take time to reach full fitness, both health-wise and match-related.

What that has translated into is a 3-6 win-loss record for Zverev in 2023.

It started with a couple of singles defeats at the United Cup, and was followed by a win and a loss at each of the Australian Open, Davis Cup and Rotterdam Open after that.

Last week, Zverev was involved in the Doha Open where he fell in the second round to Andy Murray following an opening bye.

And here he comes up against a player who had defeated him in the season-opener at the United Cup. Can Zverev finally turn a corner?

Lehecka Much Improved This Year

As recently as two years ago, Lehecka was ranked 355th in the world. He finished the 2021 season at 141st and 12 months, ended another season of tennis ranked 81st in the world.

More recently he has taken his tennis to another level and that has resulted in Lehecka hitting a career-high ranking of 37th on the ATP charts.

A couple of results later he has settled back just outside the top 50 but he will look at his performances at the Australian Open and the ATP Doha rather fondly.

Lehecka shocked Cameron Norrie and Felix Auger-Aliassime at the season’s first major to reach the quarterfinal. And a couple of Davis Cup wins later, he had gotten the better of Andrey Rublev to make the semifinal in the Qatar Open.

All in all, Lehecka has defeated Zverev, Norrie, Auger-Aliassime and Rublev this season and we are not even two months in.

It wouldn’t be a huge surprise if he gives Zverev a run for his money again.

Zverev v Lehecka Prediction and Tip

While Zverev is a favourite here according to the bookmakers it would be foolhardy to discard Lehecka’s chances in this one. We expect him to win a set for starters and make life on court extremely tough for Zverev.
