Andrey Rublev v Alejandro Davidovich Fokina Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the 2020 French Open where Rublev scored a four-set win over Fokina.

Rublev Rips Past Krajinovic

Coming into the tournament on the back of two defeats from three matches, Rublev might not be at his most confident self but he did what he could do to move past Filip Krajinovic in his opener.

The world number six needed an hour and a half to get past his Serbian opponent 7-5, 6-2 to seal his second round berth in Dubai.

It was Rublev’s first serve that proved to be too hot to handle for Krajinovic. Serving eight aces and winning 90% of his first serve points, Rublev did not face too many problems on his serve despite making a slow start to the match.

Rublev, who was broken in the very first game, never looked back from that point on as he overturned a 3-5 deficit to win 10 of the next 12 games in the encounter.

What Rublev would hope for is better starts to his matches with the Russian having struggled in all four his previous matches now. Can he take down Fokina and slightly more easily at that?

Fokina Has No Worries against Jaziri

A quarterfinalist at the Qatar Open last week, Fokina resumed his tennis action with a facile win over Tunisia’s Malek Jaziri.

Jaziri, who has been relegated to playing in the lower circuits after dropping out of the top 400 on the ATP charts, lasted all of 52 minutes in his 6-2, 6-0 defeat at the hands of Fokina.

The world number 29 saved three break-points in the match – all of which came when he was serving for a 5-2 lead in the first set – and broke his opponent five times out of the five opportunities he got.

This follows Fokina’s wins over Constant Lestienne and Soon-woo Kwon in the first rounds at Doha where he went down to Felix Auger-Aliassime. Can he now overcome the slightly off-colour Rublev?

Rublev v Fokina Prediction and Tip

While Rublev is the favourite we expect Fokina to put up a challenge for his opponent and for the match to possibly slip into a third set.
