Djokovic Remains Unbeaten in 2023

Playing for the first time since winning his 22nd Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, Novak Djokovic had a tough start but he somehow managed to see off Tomas Machac in three sets.

The Serb edged the first set, but the qualifier got the solitary break of the second to force the decider. Both exchanged a break in the final set as well before the world no. 1 raced to victory in the tiebreak.

Djokovic struck 12 aces and 45 winners in the match to register a 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-1) victory in two hours and 27 minutes. He also double faulted eight times in the match and made 28 unforced errors; these are a couple of areas he would like to tighten in the next round.

The 93-time champion is unbeaten in 2023 and Tuesday’s win improved his season record to 13-0. Djokovic had begun the season by winning the Adelaide International title. He followed it up by claiming his 10th Australian Open title by beating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final.

The win was also his 44th in Dubai. A five time champion from six Dubai finals, Djokovic improved his Dubai record to 44-7.

Can he add more wins in Dubai this year?

Griekspoor Holds off Lestienne

Making his debut in Dubai, Tallon Griekspoor got off to a good start as he edged past France’s Constant Lestienne in three sets.

The Dutchman, ranked no. 39th in the world, saved 6 of 7 break points and converted 3 of 12 to win the one hour and 58 minute contest 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.

It has been an excellent start to the season for Griekspoor, who improved to 12-3 following the first round win. He had begun the seaon by winning the Maharashtra Open title, where he beat Benjamin Bonzi in the final.

He continued the good work at the Australian Open where he reached the third round and then made it to the final four in Rotterdam.

Most recently he won one and lost one in Doha.

It will be interesting to see if he can test Djokovic in the second round match on Wednesday.

Djokovic v Griekspoor Prediction and Tip

Despite a tough start, Djokovic will be the overwhelming favourite to win this contest. Griekspoor may ask a few difficult questions, but the world no. 1 is expected to come prepared with the answers.
