Holger Rune v Matteo Berrettini Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came in the 2022 Indian Wells Open and Berrettini had won that in three sets.

Rune Blows Borges Away

It took Rune a mere 58 minutes to overcome Nuno Borges in their second round match with the Danish number one winning 6-0, 6-2.

Rune, who had earlier been pushed to three sets by Ben Shelton in the first round, slammed seven aces and won 81% of his first serve points in his victory. He faced just one break-point which he saved while breaking his opponent five times in the match.

This comes on the back of a bit of an up and down kind of a season for Rune though.

A first round loss at Adelaide kick-started 2023 for him before he managed a fourth round appearance at the Australian Open. While he won his couple of Davis Cup singles matches it was followed by two defeats from five matches including one in which he had to retire because of an injury.

He now faces a challenging opponent in the form of Berrettini.

Berrettini Registers Easy Win over Ymer

The last time Berrettini had played before the start of this tournament was at the Australian Open where he was sent home by Andy Murray in the very first round.

And while he hasn’t been around since and seen his ranking fall to 24th as a result, Berrettini has shown what he is capable of on return. After defeating Alex Molcan in the first round, Berrettini registered a straight-set win over Elias Ymer to enter the last eight.

Berrettini was on court for an hour and 36 minutes for his 6-3, 6-3 victory, with the Italian not facing too much pressure from his Swedish opponent.

He faced two break-points, saving both of them while getting the better of Ymer’s serve on three occasions. Where Berrettini scored over Ymer was his first serve which saw him win 84% of the points as compared to his opponent who got just 64% of them.

Rune v Berrettini Prediction and Tip

There are two players here who have both had their issues this season. Can expect a fighting one here, with three sets expected.
