Marta Kostyuk v Anna-Lena Friedsam Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came in the 2020 Prague Open qualifiers and Kostyuk had won that clay court encounter in straight sets.

It turned out to be a three-setter alright but Kostyuk found excellent rhythm in the final set and came away a winner in an hour and 45 minutes to move into the quarterfinal.
Kostyuk won 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 against her 95th-ranked opponent despite dropping her serve three times in the match. In return, Kostyuk also earned a whopping 17 break-point opportunities of which she converted six.
It has been a reasonably solid season for Kostyuk without being too dazzling so far. This is the seventh tournament she is playing in 2023 and Kostyuk has won a round in six of them. This is the fourth time now that she has won back to back matches.
What she hasn’t done so far this year is win three matches in a row and this could be a golden chance for her coming up against a player ranked outside the top 100.

Friedsam Makes it to Successive WTA Quarterfinals
18-year-old Erika Andreeva hasn’t been around for a long time playing on the tour but she sure has been improving regularly. And for the second time this season, she had managed to make it to the second round a WTA tournament after having started out in the qualifiers.
Friedsam, however, ensured she wouldn’t be going any further, as she came through in her second round match. That Friedsam needed three hours and 13 minutes, saved one match-point and missed three of her before squeaking past her opponent made it one of the matches of the tournament.
Having brushed Dayana Yastremska aside in the first, Friedsam was 3/5 going into the encounter but right from the beginning it looked like there were no clear favourites here.
In the end, Friedsam registered a 7-5, 6-7 (2), 7-6 (8) win but will she recover in time to win another?
