Daniil Medvedev v Andrey Rublev Head to Head

Medvedev leads 4-2, last beating his compatriot in the 2021 Australian Open. They last met in the Nitto ATP Finals last season where Rublev registered his second win against the former number one by winning in three sets.

Rublev in his 18th Career Final

Number two seed Andrey Rublev did not disappoint in his semifinal bout with Alexander Zverev in Dubai. The Russian was put to the test, where he skillfully answered all the questions that Zverev asked.

In two hours, Rublev sailed into the final with 6-3, 7-6(9), facing just one break point in the entire match. He also enjoyed a better service game overall, even though it was his German counterpart who produced 12 aces.

This victory follows a similar slogfest against Botic van de Zandschulp in the quarterfinal, preceded by wins over Alejandro Fokina and Filip Krajinovic.

The 25-year-old is now just one win away from successfully defending his Dubai crown and delivering an impressive turnaround to the season.

The current World No. 6 has had an erratic start – his quarterfinal stint in the Australian Open is sandwiched between early exits in Adelaide, Rotterdam, and Doha. All these losses may seem surprising, seeing that they came against the likes of Thanasi Kokkinakis, Robert Bautista Agut, Alex de Minaur, and Jiri Lehecka.

Medvedev Upsets Djokovic

World No. 7 Daniil Medvedev made it to the final style with a superb win over the #1 ranked Novak Djokovic. Needing just 96 minutes, the 27-year-old won the match 6-4, 6-4, handing the Serbian his first defeat of the 2023 season.

With this, the Russian has improved his record to a brilliant 18-2 for the season and is quickly closing in on his third title already.

In fact, he is now set to compete in his third consecutive final on tour – the other coming in Rotterdam and Doha. His other stints include a third-round appearance in the Australian Open and a semifinal stint in Adelaide.

Yet to drop a set in the tournament, Daniil has made quick work of his opponents – a list that also includes Matteo Arnaldi, Alexander Bublik, and Borna Coric.

Medvedev v Rublev Prediction and Tip

This one should be interesting. Medvedev is now in his 30th singles final, showcasing a desirable pedigree and experience that covers four major finals and six Masters. The third seed has been in top form consistently while Rublev has had his trysts with erratic spells.

That isn’t to say that Andrey can’t win this one; he has the precedent and skill – but it will take some doing. Expect many games in the offing.
