Aliaksandra Sasnovich v Kaia Kanepi Head to Head

It’s 1-1 between the two ladies. They last met in Adelaide in January this year where Kanepi won in three sets.

Kanepi in a Rut

Kaia Kanepi, ranked #51, is set to compete in her 14th Indian Wells Open. Through the years, her best results include round three appearances just thrice.

Looking at her recent form, she has taken things slow. The 37-year-old has competed in just four tournaments with her most successful stints coming in Adelaide 1 & 2 where she reached the second round.

In the Australian Open, Kanepi fell to Kimberly Birrell in the opener while in Dubai thereafter, she endured a similar fate against the then-99-ranked Viktoriya Tomova.

It may not be an unreasonable assumption to say that Kaia is nearing the end of her career which, at this stage, may be marked by a lack of results (akin to Venus Williams’s form). At the same time, experience does matter so perhaps, she will put up a solid fight against Sasnovich.

Sasnovich in a Similar Tide

Coming in with a record of 3-6, Aliaksandra Sasnovich is not having a great run on the tour either.

With only two tournaments where she has picked up a main-draw win – Aus Open (against Brenda Fruhvirtova) and WTA Dubai (against Rebeka Masarova), there is much to be desired from the Belarusian’s form.

Currently ranked World No. 44, Sasnovich did enjoy a decent spell last year that saw her close at 35-21 (compared to Kanepi’s 29-19) with two WTA runner-up trophies.

Even her track record in the valley is not all that bad; she made it as far as the round of 16 in 2021.

Kanepi v Sasnovich Prediction and Tip

This match can very well go either way. Both players are well-experienced but Sasnovich has the benefit of youth and stamina – something that may prove to be decisive in the testing conditions of California. Expect an entertaining match.
