Daniil Medvedev v Brandon Nakashima Head to Head

Medvedev and Nakashima have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Medvedev on a 14-Match Winning Streak

Ever since he lost in the third round of the Australian Open to Sebastian Korda, Medvedev looks to be a transformed man on court.

He has seemingly started enjoying his tennis a lot more and in turn has started winning the way he used to at his peak. That has translated into a 14-match winning streak for the Russian, which has brought him three ATP titles.

What’s more striking in this phase is he has also won him matches against Felix Auger-Aliassime (twice), Jannik Sinner, Andy Murray and most importantly against Novak Djokovic whom he defeated in the semifinal of the ATP Dubai.

He would then go on to rout Andrey Rublev in the final of that very tournament to lift his third title in a row.

Medvedev will now start off as one of the favourites in a tournament where he has never gone beyond the fourth round and will be hungry to change that around.

Nakashima Surprise for Isner

While there was no clear-cut favourite in his first round match against John Isner, Nakashima would have been nervous coming into the encounter.

Isner is, after all, one of the best servers in the game still and has had a solid result go his way at Dallas where he had made the final. Not to mention Nakashima’s only issues which had kept him away from tennis for a period of nearly a month and a half.

Which is why, a straight-set win over Isner after needing to save a set-point was something that Nakashima will take with his eyes closed.

He came through 7-6 (7), 6-3 in an hour and 39 minutes on the back of one break of serve in the entire match. The world number 48 also out-served his opponent by winning 85% of his first serve points and 67% of the second, with Isner coming up 78% and 44% as his corresponding figures.

Can Nakashima now up the ante against the in-form Medvedev?

Medvedev v Nakashima Prediction and Tip

Medvedev’s appetite for success in a tournament where he hasn’t done much of note along with his superlative form makes him a huge favourite to win this in straight sets.
