To give you a perspective about how much of a favourite Belinda Bencic was going into her second round, she had already won two WTA titles coming into this tournament.
She had defeated the likes of Garbine Muguruza, Caroline Garcia, Veronika Kudermetova, Daria Kasatkina, Beatriz Haddad Maia and Liudmilla Samsonova in the process of claiming those two.
And when Bencic won the first set of her second round match against Teichmann, it looked like the match was headed in the right direction.
But then Teichmann roared back into contention from being set down and 3-3 in the second to break Bencic twice in a row out of nowhere to level the encounter. In the decider, she overcame Bencic’s serve two more times to take a 5-1 lead.
And while Teichmann missed a match-point on her serve as Bencic made a last-ditch effort to come back, Teichmann served it out the next time she had a chance to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
This will be Teichmann’s first appearance in the third round of this competition.

Peterson Advances after Zhang Retires
Not too many would have been expecting this either when the draw came out – Peterson to waltz into the third round.
But that’s what’s happened here with Sweden’s Peterson making it to the round of 32 thanks to Shuai Zhang’s retirement in their second round encounter.
The 22nd seed was down 0-3 when she opted to pull out of the match on Friday to award Peterson her first appearance in the third round of this competition where she will take on another first-timer.
Earlier, Peterson had shocked the in-form Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk 7-5, 5-7, 7-5 in the first round. Kostyuk was entering the tournament on the back of her maiden WTA title in Austin but failed to take advantage of Peterson’s errors as she made a few of her own to fall by the wayside.
Can she now continue with her run and make a shock fourth round?
Teichmann v Peterson Prediction and Tip
While on paper, a player ranked 39th should be a favourite against one ranked outside the top 100, it must be quickly added that Peterson had also made the final of the Merida Open recently. Her form is there for all to see and this could be anyone’s match. Expecting a three-setter here.
