Karolina Muchova v Marketa Vondrousova Head to Head

They have met twice before and both those contests have been won by Vondrousova.

Muchova Edged Out Trevisan

World no. 76 Karolina Muchova continued to impress on her Indian Wells debut as she knocked out the 23rd seed Martina Trevisan in a three-set contest to move into the fourth round of the tournament.

The 26-year-old saved 5 of 8 break points and converted 3 of 13 to win the two hour and 36 minute contest 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.

While the Czech edged past the Italian in the first set, she was outplayed in the second, but she showed great resolve in the final set. Trevisan had three opportunities to break Muchova’s serve in the decider, but Muchova saved all three of them and capitalised on one of the two chances that she created in the final set to win the contest.

This was the second seeded player that Muchova defeated in the tournament. She had beaten the 14th seed Victoria Azarenka 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 in the second round after beginning the tournament with a three-set win over Yulia Putintseva.

Muchova, who had started the season outside the top 100, is making steady progress and as a result of that she is climbing back the rankings as well. With the three wins she is now 10-3 for the season. She was a quarterfinalist in Auckland and also in Dubai, but she withdrew from the latter even before taking the court.

Can she reach a third quarterfinal of the year with a win on Tuesday?

Vondrousova Beats Jabeur Again

For the second time this year, Marketa Vondrousova defeated world no. 4 Ons Jabeur to continue her march forward at the Indian Wells Open.

The lefty, who had beaten the Tunisian in three sets in the second round of the Australian Open, needed just two sets to dispatch her on Monday.

The win may have come in straight sets but it wasn’t an easy one though as Vondrousova had to work hard for it, particularly after Jabeur started the match with a double break to lead 0-3.

Vondrousova bounced back to win the next five games in a row, which included three breaks of serves, but she could not close out the match as Jabeur broke again to stay on serve. The set was eventually decided in the tiebreak, which was won by the Czech.

In the second set, it was Vondrousova who made the early charge building a 5-1 lead. But just when it seemed she had it under control, nerves got the better of her.

She had three match points at 5-2 (40-0) but she missed all of them and ended up dropping serve. Then she squandered two more match points in the next game on Jabeur’s serve, but finally got her act together in the next game and closed out the match for a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 victory.

It was a third consecutive straight sets win for the Czech. But much more difficult than the straight sets drubbings of Rebecca Marino and Marie Bouzková in the first two rounds respectively.

Vondrousova has now improved the season record to 10-4. She didn’t play a lot of tennis last year due to a wrist surgery, but has looked good this season.

The former French Open finalist had a last eight finish in Adelaide and a semifinal finish in Linz. Can she keep her solid run going in Indian Wells?

Muchova v Vondrousova Prediction and Tip

It is a battle between two Czech players looking to regain the rankings after losing a lot of places due to injuries. Both are playing well at the moment and both will be eager to go deeper in the tournament.

Vondrousova has a slight edge going into this one. She also has the better record in the head-to0head match and that should give her the psychological edge as well.
