Sunshine Swing Not Happy Hunting for Giron

Despite the Sunshine Swing taking place on home territory, Marcos Giron has not enjoyed a great deal of success at Indian Wells or Miami.

He has made a combined six visits at both March doubleheaders, and his best showing remains the third round he made in Indian Wells back in 2019 as a qualifier, in a week where Giron announced himself to the tennis world in proper style.

Currently ranked 71st in the rankings, Giron is a respectable 8-7 for the season, making the quarterfinal in three of the seven tournaments he has played in 2023.

Some of Giron’s biggest wins this year have been very impressive. These include victories over Richard Gasquet, J.J. Wolf, and Ben Shelton. However, he’s won once in his last four matches coming to the Miami Masters this week.

Garin Impeccable in Qualifying

Last week, Cristian Garin played the tennis that once took him into the top 20. He recorded two huge scalps in Indian Wells, beating Yoshihito Nishioka and World No. 4 Casper Ruud in back-to-back matches to reach the second week at the desert.

Although his campaign went up in smoke against Davidovich Fokina in the fourth round, Garin has not lost his confidence one.

The Chilean has breezed through the qualifying rounds at the Miami Masters in the past couple of days, romping to wins over Kaichi Uchida and countryman Alejandro Tabilo.

Garin did not drop a set in both matches and while the odds were a lot closer in his match against Tabilo, he never looked like losing that one despite being taken into a first-set tiebreak. He broke Tabilo’s huge serve twice in the second set to race to a straight-sets victory.

Giron v Garin Prediction and Tip

This will be a tough one for Giron. The Chilean has rediscovered his lost confidence and is playing some fine tennis in North America. Expect him to hold the edge in this one.
