Karolina Pliskova v Misaki Doi Head to Head

The two ladies have met each other a total of seven times on the tour, six of which were WTA events. Pliskova has won on five occasions and she presently leads Doi with a 5-2 lead. They last met in the 2016 Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati, where the Czech won the match in straight sets.

Interestingly, that very year in Wimbledon, Doi handed Pliskova a stunning defeat in the second round.

Pliskova’s Remarkable Start to the Season

World No. 5 Pliskova has been nothing short of brilliant so far this year. With only three defeats in, she is presently among the most consistent players on the tour.

She was simply brilliant in the Australian Open series, winning the Premier event in Brisbane and following it with a run to the semifinal in the Australian Open. She could have very well gone the distance in Melbourne but lost to a very determined Naomi Osaka in three sets.

After that, she played in the Fed Cup where she lost to Simona Halep. She had an equally intriguing run in Dubai too, where Su-Wei Hsieh, against all odds, knocked out Pliskova in the quarterfinal. Nonetheless, her efforts to take herself through to the penultimate rounds has proven to be quite beneficial for her.

Doi Wins her First Main Match of the Year

Misaki Doi, who is currently the World No. 127, hasn’t had the best possible start to the year as many players. Six tournaments in, she never managed to win her first round fixture up until now.

In Indian Wells, she qualified for the main draw and then met Ons Jabeur in the opening match. Courtesy of a 6-3, 6-3 win, she sailed into the second round.

Doi spent most of her previous season alternating between WTA and lower-tier events, with some success in the latter. She won the ITF event in Vancouver after defeating Heather Watson in the final. That was also the only tournament in 2018 where she managed to perform well.

Karolina Pliskova v Misaki Doi Tips & Predictions

There is no doubt that Pliskova will start this fixture as the favourite to win. She has been in a stunning form this season and can very well dispatch her Japanese adversary in straight sets.
