Anhelina Kalinina v Sofia Kenin Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings on the WTA circuit between these two players and both have won one apiece. Kalinina won at Angers last season before Kenin got her revenge in Hobart earlier this year.

Kalinina Coming off Third Round Loss in Indian Wells

Kalinina, who has climbed up to her career-best ranking of 28th in the world, is coming off a third round appearance in the Indian Wells Open two weeks ago.

Having earned the right to a first round bye as a result of being a seeded player, Kalinina then needed three sets to ride past the talented teenager Linda Fruhvirtova. In the next match, however, she frittered away a one set lead to lose to Maria Sakkari.

It’s been that kind of a season for Kalinina too.

After losing in the first round of the Adelaide International in the very first week of the season and fallen to 40th on the rankings charts, Kalinina has won a round in each of her following six tournament appearances bar one.

Her best showing came at the Australian Open where she reached the third round and she will hope she can overcome an extremely tricky opponent here to do the same in Miami.

Kenin in a Topsy-Turvy Win over Hunter

Storm Hunter was a distant 19/10 to upset the former Australian Open winner Kenin and for a while in the match it looked like that too. Kenin had rushed through the opening set and was a break up in the second.

Her opponent then fought back to level the proceedings and even went 5-3 up in the second set before Kenin broke again, pushed the set into a tie-breaker before clinching a 6-0, 7-6 (5) victory.

Where Kenin scored over her opponent was her ability to attack her weak second serve and win 62% of the points.

In the seven previous tournaments Kenin has played this season, only once has she won back to back matches. Kenin, who had also made the second round at the Indian Wells Open where she lost to the eventual champion Elena Rybakina, will now hope she can go one better.

Kalinina v Kenin Prediction and Tip

Kalinina is a favourite here at 5/6 but Kenin has slowly been showing signs of her some old sparkle. Cannot see Kenin go out without a fight for sure.
