Elena Rybakina v Paula Badosa
Elena Rybakina and Paula Badosa have played already this year and it was last week in Indian Wells with Rybakina winning the match in two sets. It was a comfortable win in line with the current form of both players as the former is much better right now.
Rybakina ended up winning that event so she’s coming to Miami with a lot of confidence. The courts here might actually favour her even more because her serve will be even tougher to handle. Badosa can serve well too but her serve has much less power than that of Rybakina.
Badosa does lead the H2H which is 4-2 in her favour. Right now it’s pretty clear though that Rybakina is the better player as she’s been arguably the second-best player all year long.
Unless some drastic happens and I don’t think it will, we’ll see Rybakina once again beat Badosa and I reckon it’s in two sets again. Both survived in three sets in the previous round but Badosa had one day of extra rest. Something to keep in mind.

Jessica Pegula v Danielle Collins
Jessica Pegula takes on compatriot Danielle Collins in a fascinating matchup that the latter doesn’t like that much. Collins played Pegula three times so far and she lost all three of those matches only once taking a set off of her opponent.
Pegula has been the better player this year by far as she’s already up to 17 wins compared to 9 for Collins. I could see this one being close though because Collins can certainly play well and more importantly serve well. If she finds her serve this one will be close.
The over is certainly something to consider but Pegula winning should be the no-brainer. I just don’t see how Collins can hit as cleanly as she needs to hit the ball in order to stay competitive in this match.
Both had good wins in the previous round so confidence shouldn’t be an issue for either. I just think Pegula is better right now so I’ll back her to win.

Coco Gauff v Anastasia Potapova
This one is a rather interesting matchup between two players who are super fun to watch. On one hand we have Gauff who has a rather questionable forehand and Potapova who doesn’t have those issues. Her issue is more so with her inability to play consistent tennis.
They played twice so far and Gauff won both matches. It’s not surprising because in a direct matchup the skills that she has matchup up better. Both matches were some time ago and Potapova has improved quite a bit since then. This year has been her best in terms of consistency yet.
Potapova is up to 13 wins already which if kept up will be quite a bit more than the 37 she had last year. The matchup favours Gauff, she’s at home and she should win.
In practice I quite like Potapova to give her some trouble. I think the over is the best to pursue in terms of likelihood and the odd itself. I think we’ll see either three sets or generally a close match which should benefit the over. For the winner, I’d pick Gauff.
