Aryna Sabalenka v Sorana Cirstea Head to Head

Interestingly, Sabalenka and Cirstea have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Sabalenka Blitzes Past Barbora

It was expected to be a close match given Barbora Krejcikova’s form in recent times but the world number two Sabalenka was having none of it. She needed just 67 minutes on court to cruise to the quarterfinal with a straight-set win over Krejcikova.

Sabalenka won 6-3, 6-2 as she broke her opponent three times in the match while serving up eight aces and winning 88% of her first serve points. Krejcikova was allowed to win just 67% of them in comparison with five double-faults also not helping her cause.

And the world number two faced just one break-point in the entire match, easily saving it on her way.

This follows a brutal show of form from Sabalenka all season but more so in this tournament where she had dropped seven games in the second round, three in the third and five here against Krejcikova.

Facing the world number 74 in the quarterfinal could be as easy as they come for a player in this kind of rhythm.

Cirstea Continues to Shock and Awe

For the third match in a row Cirstea was an overwhelming underdog and yet, she came through in straight sets to book her place in the last eight.

Cirstea, who had earlier seen off Caroline Garcia and Karolina Muchova, went into her fourth round encounter against Marketa Vondrousova at 9/5 odds to win. And she did just that, clinching her quarterfinal berth 7-6 (3), 6-4.

In a match lasting an hour and 37 minutes, Cirstea shrugged off a break of serve in the 11th game of the opening set that gave her opponent a chance to serve for the set, to grab it in the tie-breaker.

The second set saw both players face two break-points apiece with Cirstea managing to save both while breaking Vondrousova off the second.

Cirstea has been in the kind of form rarely seen from her in recent times. At the Indian Wells Open, she made it to the quarterfinals too and for the first time, which is exactly what she has done here again.

Sabalenka v Cirstea Prediction and Tip

Cirstea’s run to the quarterfinal at the Indian Wells Open was ended by Iga Swiatek and it would need Sabalenka to do the same to her here. Straight-set win but with one of the sets possibility running deep.
