Nuria Parrizas Diaz v Francesca Jones Head to Head

There was one previous meeting between these two at the ITF level and Jones had surprisingly won that one on clay.

Parrizas Diaz Hoping to Recapture 2021 Glory

2021 was Parrizas Diaz’s best season so far with the Spaniard having captured two titles on tour and having risen to 45th in the world at the same time.

Since then, however, the Spaniard hasn’t quite been able to replicate her success and tumbled to 88th on the WTA Rankings. This was also after she started off the season 70th and a lack of solid results pulled her down.

In 2023, Parrizas Diaz has played 15 main draw matches and lost eight. More recently she made the second round at three successive tournaments – Merida, Monterrey and Indian Wells – to give her some respite but she fell in the second at all three.

Parrizas Diaz had a modest time on clay last season after having made the Bogota Open quarterfinals in 2021 and won the Bastad title that very year. Can she find some of her form here again?

Jones’ Focussing on Clay Since February

After a couple of indoor hardcourt ITF competitions at the start of the season, Jones opted to turn her attention to her favourite surface from February onward and she has played four clay court tournaments since.

The former world number 149 would have liked to do a bit better than she has done in 2023. Yes, a 7-4 win-loss record isn’t bad but for a player who was more than 700 places higher than she is right now, Jones would like to do a lot better.

Which is why a wild-card entry into a WTA tournament would also help her garner ranking points and push her back to where she was as recently as the start of the previous season.

What Jones would require is a run of solid performances at appearances like these or for her to win a couple of ITF competitions, something she last did in 2019.

Parrizas Diaz v Jones Prediction and Tip

Parrizas Diaz is a favourite but she might have some difficulties here given her opponent’s a decent player on clay. Can expect Jones to put up a fight.
