They played once before on the challenger tour and Muller won that match last year in two sets.

Richard Gasquet returns to Marrakech once more to play himself into a good form on clay. The French player has played at a really solid level this year even winning a trophy this year and he’ll try to bring that success to clay. He’s always been fairly decent on the surface posting a winning record on it in most years.
He was 13-10 last year and he’s 9-7 so far with some solid performances in Marrakech over the years. The last time he played here was last year when he reached the quarter-final. Some years before he even made it to the semi-final so he’s quite familiar with the event.
That experience will certainly give him an edge over his compatriot who bested him in their only clash so far. It was a match last year in Aix on clay with Muller winning easily.
Gasquet will be motivated to get a win under his belt and start off his clay season in good fashion. I believe he can do it though it will be tricky due to Muller’s own emergence. A lot will depend on how well the groundstrokes work but if the backhand is precise, he should be good to go.

Muller’s Impressive year so far
Alexandre Muller played a lot of tennis so far this year with 29 matches under his belt. He won 19 of them and that’s already half of what he won in total last year so the improvement is clear. Most of those wins came on hard courts but he has two wins on clay already.
It was at a challenger event and having played those matches will certainly help him get his rhythm quicker than Gasquet who hasn’t played on clay this year. He’ll have the confidence from the impressive win over his compatriot last year on clay as well.
Muller has played many matches in his career on clay and for the most part, he’s been pretty decent. A lot depends on his serve but he’s generally a very aggressive player who likes to attack and for the most part, I expect him to be the more aggressive one.
If he can be precise with his groundstrokes he can win the match but if he allows Gasquet too much time he’ll be in trouble.
Gasquet v Muller Prediction and Tip
This one is really tricky to call because both players have largely played well this year. Both can play well on clay too and Muller won their previous meeting on the surface. I think he can surprise but I wouldn’t count on it so maybe an over is not a bad idea.
