Anna Blinkova v Anna Bondar Head to Head

Blinkova Had a Decent First Quarter
Anna Blinkova had a decent first quarter. The Russian went from qualifiers to the semifinals in Hobart, defeating Marie Bouzkkova and Yulia Putintseva en route, and then got her first wins in Indian Wells and Miami.
Blinkova is 9-8 overall this season. She had a bit of dip in form after Hobart, but ended a four-match losing streak in Austin and since then, she has not lost a first round match. However, she has not won consecutive matches since Hobart.
Blinkova beat Ann Li in the opener in Indian Wells, where she made her main draw debut, and then got her first win in Miami by beating Jule Niemeier in the first round. She fell in the second round of both the events.
Blinkova will be playing in Charleston for the first time this year. She is a decent clay court player and was a finalist at the WTA 125 in Saint Malo last year, finishing the season with a 16-10 record on clay. But all those wins came at lower level tournaments and the 24-year-old will now be hoping to replicate that form at the top level.
Blinkova, who captured her maiden WTA title at the Transylvania Open last year, will hope to make an early impact in Charleston.

Bondar Struggling to Win Matches
Anna Bondar comes into the tournament on the back of five consecutive defeats. The Hungarian had last won a match in the first round in Lyon in January. Since losing in the second round in Lyon, Bondar made first round exits from Merida, Monterrey, Indian Wells and Miami.
Bondar is 3-8 overall in 2023. One of those three wins came in a qualifying round in Adelaide, where she failed to make the main draw after losing in the second qualifier. The other two wins came against Ana Bogdan in the first round of the Australian Open (her first win at a Grand Slam tournament) and against Nuria Parrizas-Diaz in the first round in Lyon.
Bondar plays her best tennis on clay and 10 of her 12 ITF titles have come on clay. She also has won her only WTA 125 title on clay.
Making her second appearance in Charleston, she will be looking to do better than her second round finish last year.
