Stevanovic Struggling to Deliver

Natalija Stevanovic (also known as Natalija Kostic) has had a season to forget in 2023.

Ranked World No. 224, the Serbian has found herself on the short end of victories. Before the WTA Bogota, her last win came in the Thailand Open qualifiers against Kaylah Mcphee; that success was short-lived, as she immediately fell to Valeria Savinykh next.

Next up, she featured in ITF events in Germany, South Korea, and Kazakhstan but to little avail.

Here in Colombia, Natalija snapped her losing streak by beating Ipek Oz and Irina Khromacheva in the qualifiers. Now, the 28-year-old is set for a crucial showdown – her first WTA main draw match in almost three years.

For what it’s worth, her record on clay is not that horrible, as she picked up 15 ITF finals on the surface.

Ribera Navigating a Better Tide

It may not have been a picture-perfect season for Spain’s Marina Bassols Ribera, but she is still ahead when compared to Kostic.

Her record is 6-9, and she has arrived for the Copa Colsanitas on the back of a four-match losing streak spread across Monterrey, Indian Wells, and Miami.

Ribera’s best results came in Linz and Lyon, where she cleared the qualifiers before losing in the main-draw opening match. In fact, the 23-year-old has not won a WTA match in what seems like forever.

In addition, the current World No. 124 has an inferior pedigree in comparison to her Serbian adversary. Overall, that may play a role in shaping the outcome of this match.

Ribera v Stevanovic Prediction and Tip

This match can very well swing either way. Ribera may have more wins under her belt in 2023, but that may not account for much here. Natalija’s qualifying victories give her a solid boost to carry into the week – but can she convert them into the biggest win of her career yet? Only time will tell.
