Sara Sorribes Tormo v Aliona Bolsova Head to Head

These two Spaniards have never faced off in a match before this.

Sorribes Tormo Returns to the Circuit

At the end of the 2021 season, Sorribes Tormo admitted she needed to take a bit of a break from the sport with burnout being a huge factor given her style of play.

What followed in 2022 was a few injuries that laid her low and by Parma Open, the Spaniard was forced to look to recover from those too. Which is why, Sorribes Tormo hasn’t been in action for a while now having not played a match at any competitive level in more than six months.

She now returns to tennis on her favourite surface, having made the quarterfinal of the Madrid Open last year and ended the season with a semifinal appearance in Palermo as well.

The good news for Sorribes Tormo is she seems to be fit again by the looks of things but extended her break to return on clay. And given she has a player who has never been ranked better than 88th in the world against her, she should have a decent shot at winning her first match on return too.

Bolsova’s Won Just Two Main Draw Matches

Much like her opponent, Bolsova is also more known for her clay court exploits and that can also be seen from how she has gone this season.

Her only two main draw wins, both in WTA 125 competitions, have come on clay. The latest one was at San Luis Potosi last week where Bolsova overcame Despina Papamichail in her opener before Sara Errani got the better of her in the second.

Interestingly, these two results are still better than what Bolsova managed last year when she was restricted to playing on the ITF circuit. There was one win on the WTA 125 level again but otherwise Bolsova had a decent record on the lower level.

This could well be her chance here to notch up a rare win at the highest level given her opponent’s layoff from the sport.

Sorribes Tormo v Bolsova Prediction and Tip

While Sorribes Tormo is a favourite here we might have to proceed with some caution here as she is only just returning to the sport. At some point she can be expected to win but will this be the one? Risky punt.
