Harmony Tan v Emiliana Arango Head to Head

Their only previous two meetings have come on the ITF circuit and Tan has won them both.

Tan Has No Worries in Qualifiers

Once ranked 90th in the world, Tan’s performances in recent times have fallen off the cliff and so has her ranking.

She is now outside the top 200 and only performances like the one that were on show in the qualifiers here could make some difference to her chances of breaking back into the top-100.

Tan dropped just five games in her demolitions of Maria Fernanda Navarro Olivia and Carole Monnet in the two qualifying rounds to gain her first WTA main draw appearance of the season.

Before this, Tan’s best showing of the year came at two indoor events on the ITF circuit in Porto. She made back to back semifinals in those competitions.

Can the 2021 Bogota semifinalist now win her first WTA main draw match in a while?

Arango Gets a Wildcard

While some get a wildcard for playing in their home WTA competitions and might not always deserve it, Arango’s recent performances coupled with her playing in her own country means she has fully deserved it.

Arango might have never been ranked better than 220th in the world but her performance on clay this season has been exemplary.

The Colombian player is coming off a quarterfinal appearance at the WTA125 event in San Luis Potosi last week but even before that she had a top-class showing on the ITF circuit.

As a qualifier Arango had made the semifinal in Naples first up and then entered the semifinal of another WTA125 tournament in Cali. More recently, she was a finalist at the Mosguera ITF tournament and hence starts off a favourite in this one.

Tan v Arango Prediction and Tip

While Tan is the more experienced player, Arango’s results on clay leave us with no choice but to back her over her French opponent.
