Overall Kubler would be reasonably pleased with a straight-set win over the veteran Spaniard Fernando Verdasco he would have had his heart in his mouth at a point in the first set.
Twice in the first set, Kubler was down a break and his opponent had an opportunity to serve for the set on one of those occasions. Verdasco muffed up the chance but Kubler himself then squandered away three set-points in the tie-breaker that followed
It was off the fourth that he won the opening set before breaking his opponent three times to wrap up the match 7-6 (7), 6-0.
Kubler, who had won just two main draw matches on clay before this, will now face a more difficult challenge in the form of a player who has had a much better experience on these kind of surfaces.

Galan Reverses Poor Run
While clay is his favourite surface, Galan’s overall record this season including a few tournaments he’s played on clay, has been anything but appetizing. Which is why coming up against the 93rd-ranked Zhizhen Zhang, he wasn’t even the favourite.
Going into this first round encounter as a 11/10 underdog, Galan carved out a 6-2, 6-3 win over Zhang in a mere hour and 15 minutes to register just his second win of the season.
Galan had won just one match this whole season to go with eight defeats at the highest level. Which is why the manner in which he served up 12 aces, faced just one break-point and wasn’t broken even once made for a compelling result.
In turn he got the better of Zhang’s serve on three occasions to ease to a victory.
Kubler v Galan Prediction and Tip
This makes for an intriguing battle what with Kubler starting out as bit of a favourite against the struggling Galan. We think Kubler might not have had as many results going his way as Galan has on clay but he has done enough to suggest he could inch past his opponent here.
