Veronika Kudermetova v Diana Shnaider Head to Head

Kudermetova and Shnaider have never faced off before this.

Kudermetova Hoping to Get Back into Top 10

Kudermetova looked to have made a solid start to the season but over the last three tournaments in Dubai, Indian Wells and Miami, the results have simply not gone her way.

Losses to Anhelina Kalinina, Karolina Pliskova and Marketa Vondrousova meant the former world number nine has fallen four places to 13th at the moment.

The Russian now returns to the scene of her second WTA title win though, which had come in 2021. Following on from a first round exit here in 2019, Kudermetova rebounded well to beat Paula Badosa in the semifinal in 2021 on her way to the tournament victory.

Last year, Kudermetova also made the quarterfinal of the French Open, her best ever Grand Slam showing – another indicator of her clay court preferences.

She starts off against a player ranked 95th in the world and is a heavy favourite to come through.

Shnaider Eases Past Parks

Shnaider is just 19 and has already climbed up to 90th in the world earlier this season before settling in at 95th at the moment. She had come into this tournament on the back of four successive defeats including two in the qualifiers of Indian Wells Open and Miami Open but a switch to clay has come at the right time for her.

That can be seen from her record on this surface.

The Russian  won four titles last season on clay including one in the WTA 125 series in Montevideo in November. No surprises then that she went from ranked 877th in the world at the start of 2022 to ending the season just outside the top 100.

Here, she showed why she is this highly-rated on clay as she romped past Alycia Parks 6-4, 6-3 to seal her berth against a fellow Russian whose form has been a tad patchy recently. Can she carve out the biggest win of her season yet?

Kudermetova v Shnaider Prediction and Tip

Kudermetova is 1/4 to win this but Shnaider has a few things going her way – her clay court form and the lack of fear as a 19-year-old. Can she combine those two with her talent to make it very difficult for Kudermetova? We think so.
