Botic van de Zandschulp v Christopher O’Connell Head to Head

They have never faced off before this at this level.

Van de Zandschulp Enters Clay Court Swing at 9-7 Win-Loss

Of the seven tournaments that van de Zandschulp has played this season, he has been ousted in his opener just once. At the same time though, there have been just three tournaments in which he’s won two successive matches but none in which he has won three.

This gives him a modest 9-7 win-loss record for the year as he now moves in to feature in his first ever clay court match of the season.

And van de Zandschulp’s record on clay isn’t too shoddy either. The world number 31 has already made it to the final of one clay-court ATP tournament – it came last year in Munich – and he has also won three Futures events on the same surface.

Which is why when he takes to court against Australia’s O’Connell who is ranked 87th in the world, van de Zandschulp will start a heavy favourite.

O’Connell Proves to be Too Good for Bonadio

Before coming into this tournament, O’Connell’s career win-loss record on clay read a mere 1-4. Which is why despite going up against Riccardo Bonadio, who is ranked 181st in the world, the Aussie was only as short as 3/4 to win it.

It took O’Connell an hour and 40 minutes too to register his second win on the red dirt. He was broken once in the first set but from that point on he maintained his side of things quite well, waiting for Bonadio to make mistakes.

O’Connell also went after his opponent’s second serve, winning nearly half of those points while himself finishing with 80% first serve points won.

It was also just his fourth main draw win of the season and given how rare they have been for the Aussie, he would well cherish it irrespective of the result of this second round encounter.

van de Zandschulp v O’Connell Prediction and Tip

Expecting an easy van de Zandschulp win here despite the Dutchman playing on clay for the first time this season. Straight sets.
