Magda Linette v Madison Keys Head to Head

There have been three previous meetings between these two players and Keys leads 2-1 with Linette’s only win having come in the Billie Jean King Cup. All three matches have come in the last six months incidentally.

Linette Scrapes Past Gracheva

Not quite known for her performances on clay, Linette needed to have her wit around her as she edged out Varvara Gracheva in the second round.

Following on from an opening round bye, Linette knew what she was up against having started out a 11/10 underdog in the encounter. And when she dropped her serve on two occasions and then lost the opening set in a tie-breaker despite showing signs of a fight, it looked like those odds made a lot of sense.

In the second set, Linette earned herself an early break but then dropped her serve in the eighth game. She then squandered four break-points, adding to her frustration but Gracheva gave her a fifth and this time she converted.

The only break of serve of the deciding set came in the seventh game which was followed by Linette missing on four match-points and saving two break-points before she finally huffed and puffed to the victory.

Can she recover from this gruelling three-hour long contest and put up a fight against Keys.

Keys Records Baptiste Rout

After having sent Emma Navarro packing in the first round, Keys wasted no time in getting the better of Hailey Baptiste in the second to make it to the same stage she had last season.

The world number 22 recorded a 6-1, 6-2 win over the fellow American in a match that went on for 70 minutes.

The only issue that Keys did face was she she struggled with her serve at some points, facing two break-points apiece in three of the games. Each time, however, she saved those break-points, thereby never losing her serve.

In turn Keys got the better of Baptiste’s serve on four occasions to march past her opponent.

Having won the title on one previous occasion here and finishing runner-up on another, Keys will now hope to get as close as possible to those results. Linette, however, isn’t about to make her task any easier.

Linette v Keys Prediction and Tip

We believe Linette might have put up a solid fight or even won on a surface other than clay but here we have to tip Keys for the win.
