Verdasco Last Won in September 2022

It’s been a while since Verdasco won a main draw match having made the second round of the Sofia Open last September.

On clay, Verdasco had made the quarterfinal last season, having entered the tournament as a lucky loser and the Spaniard having directly made the second round.

And before that there were a few wins on red dirt as well in 2022 but not enough to prevent Verdasco’s ranking from not just stalling but also crashing to his current levels.

Not since in the first five years of his career way back around 2005 has Verdasco ever been ranked this low. What that has also meant is he is barely able to make it to the main draw of top-level events having featured in four tournaments as wild-cards this year.

For a change he faces an opponent who hasn’t done much of note at the highest level, which gives him a bit of a chance to put up a fight.

Passaro Wins Maiden Clay Court Match

Passaro’s experience at the highest level isn’t much to beckon but he comes into this tournament on the back of his first ever win in a clay court match at the highest level.

This came at the Marrakesh Open where Passaro defeated Aslan Karatsev in the first round, before Alexandre Muller got the better of him.

The Italian then opted to feature in the Madrid Challenger instead of going through the Monte-Carlo Masters qualifiers and did well enough. He reached the semifinal there on the back of three successive wins and will now come here knowing he can take that leap up at this level too.

Overall, spread across all levels of competition Passaro is 101-60 on clay and that should be enough to take him over the line against a player who seems to be way past his prime.

Verdasco v Passaro Prediction and Tip

No surprises Passaro is a favourite here with an offer of 3/10 for his win. Straight sets too.
