Potapova Upsets Garcia

Anastasia Potapova of Russia is seriously raising the stakes in Stuttgart as she makes her semifinal debut in the competition.

She has done so in style by beating the fourth seed, world number five Caroline Garcia, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, in a little over two hours. With a 77% first-serve win rate and some commanding tennis, Potapova stunned the current WTA Finals champion.

The 22-year-old has improved her record for the season to 18-8 – a feat that includes several impressive victories. Before beating Garcia, Anastasia moved past Coco Gauff 6-2, 6-3 this week, and prior to that, she fended Petra Martic in a three-set slogfest.

In addition, Potapova bagged the Linz Open title in February and later reached the quarterfinal in the Miami Open.

Sabalenka in yet another Stuttgart Semi

World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka has reached her third consecutive semifinal in the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix. The last two times, she made it to the final but fell in the title match. All signs point to her repeating such a feat again – and perhaps, this time, she finally clinches the title.

Her journey this week has been a trying one. In the opener, she beat Barbora Krejcikova 6-2, 6-3. Next up, she met Paula Badosa and beat her 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 – after trailing 4-6, 2-4. It was quite a comeback from the Belarusian as she dug deep to keep her dream season going.

Sabalenka, who is now 22-3 in 2023, has titles from Adelaide International and Australian Open and runner-up silverware from the Indian Wells Open. She followed that with a quarterfinal stint in Miami.

Needless to say, Aryna is in a blazing form and looks absolutely unstoppable.

Sabalenka v Potapova Prediction and Tip

This should be an entertaining one; Sabalenka is the odds-on favourite and given her momentum, she will fancy her chances. That said, Potapova has proven to be a resilient player and is well-primed to put up some solid resistance.
