Rublev Knocks Out Molcan

Red-hot Andrey Rublev stormed into the Banja Luka final with a straight sets win over Alex Molcan.

The second seed, who won the Monte-Carlo Masters title last Sunday, improved his clay court record to 8-0 in 2023.

The Russian looked in control in the first set, but faced some stern resistance from Molcan in the second set. Both players traded two breaks each in the second set before Rublev broke for a third time and clinched a 6-2, 6-4 victory in an hour and 30 minutes.

The world no. 6 had beaten Juan Pablo Varillas 6-2, 6-2 in the round of 16 and then ousted Damir Džumhur 7-5, 6-3 in the quarterfinal.

Rublev, who was also a finalist in the Dubai Open, will be playing in the 20th final of his career. He is a 13-time champion and will be aiming to win his second title in 2023 on Sunday.

Lajovic Rallies Past Kecmanovic

Dusan Lajovic continued his strong run in the tournament as the world no. 70 battled past fourth seed Miormir Kecmanovic in the semifinal on Saturday.

In a three hour contest between the two Serbians, Lajovic lost the first set, but stayed in the contest by edging the world no. 33 in the second set tiebreak. Both players went toe-to-toe in the third set with Kecmanovic coming back from a break down on two occasions but a third break in the set for Lajovic proved to be decisive as he won the contest 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.

The win followed a stunning straight sets upset of top seed Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinal.

Lajovic had also begun the tournament against a Serb, beating Filip Krajinovic in three sets. Lajovic won his only match against a non-Serb player in the round of 16, defeating Grégoire Barrère 6-3, 6-0.

The 32-year-old is 14-6 on clay this year, which includes four qualifying round wins. Lajovic was a quarterfinalist in Buenos Aires, Rio and Santiago this year.

He is playing in his third career final. Can he add to the Umag title he won in 2019.

Rublev v Lajovic Prediction and Tip

Rublev will be worried about Lajovic’s form in the tournament. But the Russian is playing at a very high level. He is currently on an eight-match winning streak and in all likelihood he will be extending his streak on Sunday.
