Kiki Bertens v Garbine Muguruza Head to Head

In their four meetings so far, Bertens has been victorious thrice and presently leads Muguruza with a 3-1 lead. They last met in the Sydney International earlier this season and the Dutch was the winner of that match, courtesy of Muguruza pulling out of the event.

Bertens Looking Determined

Having started the tournament with a bye into the second round, Bertens, so far, has won both of her matches in straight sets. At the same time, her opponents weren’t that formidable but a win is a win.

She started her run with a 6-4, 6-1 win against Magda Linette and followed it with a well-deserved victory against Johanna Konta. With those wins, Bertens has also surpassed her last year’s result in the Indian Wells Open, when she lost in the second round itself.

Bertens is currently the World No. 7 – her best singles ranking yet. She has been a dominant force over the course of the last season or so, winning the Cincinnati Open, Korea Open, and most recently, winning the St. Petersburg Open in February this year.

However, she has also fallen prey to shocking defeats this season, most notably to Viktoria Kuzmova in Dubai and Elise Mertens in Doha.

Muguruza Finds her Stride

After spending most of the previous season struggling heavily with her form, Muguruza has found her rhythm this season. She came to Indian Wells with a win-loss tally of 8-3 which is certainly not a bad position to be in.

Her highlights were the Australian Open and the Hua Hin Championships, where she reached the fourth round and the quarterfinal respectively. The World No. 20 also reached the third round in WTA Dubai, only to lose to Elina Svitolina.

So far in this tournament, Muguruza has been quite impressive and lucky too. In the third round, she faced Serena Williams and went up 6-3 in the first set before Williams withdrew from the match due to an illness.

The two-time Grand Slam champion has definitely got what it takes to win here. However, a lack of form and momentum may hinder her plans but all of that may change soon.

Kiki Bertens v Garbine Muguruza Predictions & Tips

This is an evenly matched fixture for many reasons. For one, even though Bertens has been in a better form of late, Muguruza has been quite impressive over the last few weeks and it is only a matter of time before she wins a title.

Secondly, despite a 3-1 lead, Muguruza’s winning experience in big tournaments may come in handy here and can cause problems for Bertens.

Tip: Over 2.5 sets in the match: 7/5 (Unibet)
