Naomi Osaka v Belinda Bencic Head to Head

The two youngsters have met only once on the tour and that match took place in 2013. Osaka won that match in straight sets.

Osaka Continues Her Title Defence

Osaka’s performance so far in Indian Wells has been quite good, moving past the likes of Kristina Mladenovic and Danielle Collins in straight sets. She hasn’t faced that many problems and with a big serve, she is moving ahead with confidence and determination.

Currently enjoying her position as the World No. 1, Osaka successfully won the Australian Open this season after defeating Elina Svitolina, Karolina Pliskova, and Petra Kvitova.

She then played in Dubai where her form took a slight hit, losing out early to Mladenovic. However, she is certainly back on track now and in all likelihood, can very well go the distance here.

It is also a good sight to see her play well under the guidance of a new coach on the tour – Jermaine Jenkins. She recently parted ways with her long term hitting partner Sascha Bajin. He took Osaka to back-to-back Grand Slam victories and helped her reach the No. 1 position.

While it is still too early to say how she will fare with Jenkins, they have certainly started on the right note.

Bencic Finds Her Rhythm Again

The young Swiss had a very promising start to her career, winning the WTA Eastbourne and Canadian Open in 2015. The very next year, she moved into the top 10 but she couldn’t hold on to that lead for long.

What followed next was mixed results and injuries, and consequently, she slipped out of the top 100. 2017 wasn’t that eventful of a year for Bencic but in 2018, she showed signs of a comeback and managed to end the season in the top 50.

Belinda, who turned 22 only recently, came to Indian Wells with a win-loss record of 14-3. A few weeks back, she won her first singles title since 2015 in Dubai, defeating Aryna Sabalenka, Simona Halep, Elina Svitolina, and Petra Kvitova.

That win was nothing short of a warning to other players on the tour. Despite a slow start to the year – a semifinal run in Hobart and a third-round feat in Melbourne, Bencic has now made her presence known.

Naomi Osaka v Belinda Bencic Predictions & Tips

This will be an epic clash to two 20-something players. Both are quite young, soaring high on confidence and momentum. Moreover, the two ladies have winning experience – Osaka more than Bencic, but it is fair that they are evenly matched for this fixture. Osaka’s big serve may trouble the Swiss a bit but her recent form should help her deal with that.

Tip: : Over 2.5 sets in the match: 6/4 (Unibet)
