Etcheverry Has Featured in Two Finals This Year

It’s been a fantastic season so far for Argentina’s Tomas Martin Etcheverry and he will be looking to keep that form going as he prepares to make his debut in Rome.

The 23-year-old clay court specialist reached his first two ATP finals this season and also won his maiden Grand Slam and Masters 1000 matches.

Etcheverry has an overall record of 17-12 this year and he is 13-8 on clay. He reached his maiden tour-level final in Santiago, but lost a close three-setter in the final to Nicolas Jarry.

Etcheverry then reached his second final in Houston, another clay court tournament, but once again he missed out on the title after going down to Frances Tiafoe in two tiebreaks.

A three-time champion from nine Challenger finals, the Argentine also featured in the last eight in Buenos Aires this year and won his first round matches in Barcelona and Madrid in the run-up to the Italian Open.

Most recently, he played in the Aix en Provence challenger, winning the first round match, but falling in the round of 16.

Etcheverry has also seen an improvement in his rankings this year. Having started the year at no. 79, he reached a career high of no. 59, before falling a couple of places this week to no. 61. He has succeeded in wining eight of his 12 first round matches this year and that includes a Challenger tournament. He will be looking to make it nine on Wednesday.

On the tour, the Frenchman is 2-5 this season. He registered his first-ever ATP win against Pedro Sousa in Estoril and then won another main draw match in Banja Luka, upsetting Stan Wawrinka with a comeback win.
