Carlos Alcaraz v Albert Ramos Vinolas Head to Head

There have been three previous meetings between these two players, all of which came on clay and Alcaraz has won every single time. This includes a five-setter at the 2022 French Open.

The kind of season that Alcaraz has been having, it looks to be setting up to be an exciting second half. He has already won four ATP titles including two on clay and now enters his third competition on this surface.

It won’t be easy this time around with Novak Djokovic returning to competitive tennis as well but Alcaraz wouldn’t mind getting a look at him at a later stage given it could be one of the rivalries to follow in the next few years.

Coming back to the start of this competition, Alcaraz has already pocketed the Barcelona Open and Madrid Masters before this and the confidence is obviously sky-high. There could be that temptation to preserve himself heading into the French Open later this month but even that should not worry him too much.

Unless of course, his fellow countryman and a veteran of over a decade of tennis, Ramos Vinolas comes up with something special.

Ramos Vinolas, as we have mentioned earlier too, hasn’t been in the best of form in recent times and this includes on his favourite surface, clay. His wins have been few and far between and he had entered his opening round match against Francesco Passaro as a very slight favourite at 5/6.

A set down, Ramos Vinolas would have been staring at the wrong end of the barrel, but his experience helped him storm back and register a three-set win in two hours and 19 minutes.

The Spaniard won 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 as he came back from 0-3 down in the decided to seal his second round berth.

This follows a second round appearance at the Madrid Masters too from where he opted to feature on the Challenger circuit last week. Unfortunately for Ramos Vinolas, the form deserted him there as well as he fell to a three-set defeat at the hands of Laurent Lokoli in the opener.

He will do well to win more than six games in this match.
