Casper Ruud v Laslo Djere Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two players and Djere has won both times. This includes one on clay in 2019 and another earlier this year in a hardcourt competition.

Ruud Needs Three Sets against Bublik

It hasn’t been the greatest time on court for Ruud who did manage to finally win successive matches but not before he had been taken to three sets by the 9/2 underdog Alexander Bublik.

That the final set went into a tie-breaker would have added to his woes and it was only a near-perfect tie-breaker from Ruud that saved him the blushes. In the end it look Ruud two hours and six minutes to come through 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (0) and seal off his place in the fourth round.

The good news for Ruud was he lost his serve just once in the encounter but the flipside to that was his own inability to break his opponent.

Ruud managed to get past Bublik’s serve twice in the first set and never after that. Which was part of the reason why he failed to stop Bublik from taking the final set to a tie-breaker.

This follows a 2-3 win-loss record in the previous three clay-court competitions for Ruud.

Djere Aided by Garin Injury

Cristian Garin might not have started off as the favourite but he had had a run this season that made him one to vouch for. Djere, however, took a 6-3, 2-1 lead against his Chilean opponent before the 79th-ranked Garin was forced to retire from the match in Rome.

Djere would gladly take this win following another of his opponents, Constant Lestienne having also retire from their opening round match. In that match, Djere had just won the first set.

The Serb would then go on to crush Botic van de Zandschulp before the Garin win made it three in three, making this the first instance of Djere winning three successive matches at the highest level this season.

The only other time Djere had done this was on the Challenger circuit last season in Cagliari. He had gone on to enter the final there where he lost to Ugo Humbert.

Can Djere now put up a fight against Ruud?
