Elina Svitolina v Varvara Gracheva Head to Head

This will be the second meeting between Svitolina and Gracheva. The first had come at the 2020 French Open where Svitolina had won in straight sets.

Svitolina Gets a Walkover

After having sent Louisa Chirico packing from the first round of the tournament, Svitolina made it to the quarterfinal on the back of a second round walkover from Erin Routliffe.

Svitolina returned to the WTA circuit after the birth of her child earlier this year and has featured in three WTA, two ITF and one WTA 125 tournament before this. She hadn’t won a match at the highest level but did make the semifinal of the Saint-Malo Open before falling to Lesia Tsurenko in the first round of the Italian Open.

This was followed by a first round win here, her first WTA victory since her return.

And that had also meant she had gone into her second round match against Routliffe as a 1/50 favourite.

The opposition quality will go up drastically as she prepares to make it to the last four with her opponent having shown a ranking ascent in recent times.

Gracheva Eases Past Janicijevic

After having been taken to three sets by Zhuoxuan Bai in her opening round encounter, Gracheva did not waste a lot of time sending Selena Janicijevic packing from the tournament in the second round.

Gracheva, who is more tuned to hardcourt competitions and has struggled on clay this season, won 6-2, 6-1 in a mere hour and 11 minutes.

She did not face a single break-point even as the Russian broke her opponent five times from the 10 opportunities she got in the encounter.

Earlier this season, Gracheva had made the fourth round at both, the Indian Wells Open and in Miami and was a finalist at the WTA Austin. On clay, however, Gracheva won just one of her previous four matches before making it to the semifinal of the WTA 125 tournament in Paris.

Svitolina v Gracheva Prediction and Tip

This could turn out to be a gripping contest that could go either way. A three-setter looks like it could be in the offing.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Over 8.5 games in the first set: 4/9
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
