Schmiedlova Coming off a Mixed Season

World No. 98 Anna Karolina Schmiedlova has had a pretty mediocre season so far; she is 13-13 (8-8 on hard, 4-4 on clay) at the moment.

In many ways, it has been a pretty slow year for the Slovak. After the Miami Open, she next featured in the Madrid – followed by Catalonia Challenger, ITF Trnava, and Florence 125.

On the WTA side of things, Schmiedlova cleared the qualifiers but lost in the main draw – which was also the case in Indian Wells and Miami. In Reus and Tranva, she fell in round two, while in Florence, most recently, she was dismissed in the opener by Ylena In-Albon (ranked #132).

Anna’s best result of the season came in the Australian Open, where she made it as far as round two – as a qualifier.

Needless to say, her chances of making it deep in Paris are highly slim – especially considering the form of her opponent. Over the years, the best Schmiedlova has done is reaching round three – just twice.

Kudermetova in a Blazing Form

Veronika Kudermetova, World No. 11, is set to start in Roland Garros 2023 with a fair bit of momentum.

A quarterfinalist in last year’s edition, the Russian looks primed to repeat a similar feat. In recent weeks, Kudermetova reached consecutive semifinals in Madrid and Rome – beating the likes of Anastasia Potapova, Daria Kasatkina, Jessica Pegula, and Qinwen Zheng.

Earlier in the season, the 26-year-old also reached the same stage in Adelaide and Doha. However, she did experience some early defeats – notably in Indian Wells, Miami, Charleston, and Stuttgart.

All in all, Kudermetova is 18-11. On the doubles circuit, she is ranked #9 – with a title from Dubai to her name with Liudmila Samsonova.

Kudermetova v Schmiedlova Prediction and Tip

Veronika is undoubtedly the heavy favourite here; she has got everything going on for her at the moment – momentum, decent form, and a solid pedigree. Schmiedlova has been on the underside inconsistency for quite some time now and it is hard to imagine her surpassing that in Paris.

That said, strange things happen all the time and a buck here on the Slovak can yield good returns.

Tips:

  • Low-Risk Tip: Kudermetova to win: 1/7
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 19.5 games in the match: 5/6
