Despite starting out a 17/10 underdog in his quarterfinal against his fellow American compatriot Tommy Paul, Nakashima turned out to be a straight-set winner to continue his winning run.
Having sent Diego Schwartzman out in the first round and then defeated Arthur Rinderknech in a hard-fought three-setter in the second, Nakashima was on court for an hour 49 minutes to make it to the semifinal. He won 6-3, 7-6 (4) in a match where just one break of serve separated the two players.
In fact it was just one break-point in the entire first set which came Nakashima’s way and he converted that to go 3-0 up. His opponent didn’t get a single opportunity to break him there.
It was in the second set that things became a little more keen as Nakashima blew up a lead to serve it for 5-1, squandering away three match-points in the process. That didn’t deter him though as Nakashima converted it off the fourth match-point he got that came in the tie-breaker.
Can he maintain this run and win four in four for the first time since last year’s San Diego Open in September?

Fils Gets Fortunate Again
For the second match in a row, Fils did not have to waste a lot of time on court. In fact, unlike his previous match in which he was on court for a little less than the first set, Fils did not even to take to court as his opponent Felix Auger-Aliassime withdrew from the encounter due to injury.
Earlier in the tournament, Fils had gotten benefitted from Mikael Ymer’s outburst on court which saw him getting defaulted from the encounter after he broke the chair umpire’s chair.
Fils was a straight-set winner over Zhizhen Zhang in her opener and the following two results after that have meant he has now reached the semifinal of an ATP tournament for the third time this season.
