Grabher Benefits from Trevisan Injury

Martina Trevisan wasn’t at her best throughout the first set of her quarterfinal against Julia Grabher and in the end, she opted out of the contest because of her fitness concerns.

And while it wasn’t the best way to march forward for Grabher, she would be rather pleased to have made it to the semifinal of a WTA competition of this level for the first time in her career.

Grabher had just won the first set 6-3 when Trevisan pulled out, giving her a chance to climb up further in the rankings. She is currently at her career-best of 74th and irrespective of what happens in this match, Grabher would have made it to 66th in the world as a result of this.

And it’s not like Grabher doesn’t have a chance to make it to her maiden final. She hasn’t faced too many opponents of note but has done what needed to be done, and will now face a player who has never been inside the top 190 of the rankings in her career. Grabher has a definite chance.

Riera Puts Putintseva Away

For the second match in a row, Riera was a whopping second favourite before the encounter and for the second time she found a way to earn herself a win.

Reira, who was 12/5 to win her quarterfinal contest against Yulia Putintseva, overcame a first set deficit to earn herself a 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 victory in two hours and 28 minutes.

Things could have gone either way in the first set but Putintseva made a crucial breakthrough in the 11th game before wrapping up the set in the next by serving to 15. Riera frittered away three set-points off her own serve in the second but then broke Putintseva in the very next game to clinch the equaliser.

By this time, however, Riera had also captured the momentum and broke the listless Putintseva thrice in the final set as she grabbed her victory.

This comes as a huge result for a player who is on her WTA debut.

The fact to remember, however, is Reira is 29-9 on clay across all levels this season, which includes two lower-level title wins.

Grabher v Riera Prediction and Tip

While Grabher is 4/6 to win this, Reira’s form this season and momentum make us go with her for this win. At 6/5, it looks like a tempting bet too.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Over 8.5 games in the first set: 4/9
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Reira to win: 6/5
