Dominic Thiem v Milos Raonic Head to Head

The two players have met only twice on the tour and Raonic has won both the matches. They were played in 2016 on hard courts, with the Canadian winning comfortably in straight sets.

Thiem’s First Major Semifinal Since Paris Masters

Dominic Thiem, who had a promising last season with a win-loss record of 54-20, hadn’t had a good run on the tour since the Paris Masters last year.

Before coming for the Indian Wells Masters, his tally for this season was at 3-4 – absolutely terrible by his standards. While Thiem’s struggles with his form didn’t cost him much in terms of his ranking, he definitely needed to up his game sooner than later.

He suffered a string of early losses in Doha and the Australian Open and followed it with a semifinal run in Buenos Aires and a first-round exit in Rio de Janeiro.

In Indian Wells, however, Thiem has been quite impressive as he has made it to the semis without losing a single set. He dispatched the likes of Jordan Thompson, Gilles Simon, and Ivo Karlovic with ease. In the quarters, he got a walkover against Gael Monfils when he withdrew from the competition.

Raonic Looking as Impressive as Ever

Raonic, who returned to the top 20 only last season, has been improving his form match by match. He had a good start to the year with a quarterfinal feat in Brisbane and the Australian Open, losing respectively to Daniil Medvedev and Lucas Pouille.

After that, his form dropped slightly with early losses in Rotterdam and Dubai.

Just like Thiem, Raonic too found his rhythm in this tournament, starting with a series of impressive wins against Sam Querrey and Marcos Giron. In the fourth round, he defeated Jan-Lennard Struff 6-4, 6-3 and in the quarters, he edged past the lucky loser Miomir Kecmanovic with a similar score. With that win, he made it to the semifinal in Indian Wells for the second time in a row.

The Canadian hasn’t won a title since the 2016 Brisbane International and he will be eager to break that drought.

Dominic Thiem v Milos Raonic Predictions & Tips

Between the two players, Raonic has been in a fairly superior form. He also has the psychological edge over Thiem in terms of his 2-0 lead in the head to head tally. While he may be challenged by the Austrian, at the end of the day, Raonic will be expected to win this one.

Tip: Raonic to win: 4/7 (bet365)
