It did not take Cerundolo a lot of time to get past the much fancied Cameron Norrie in the semifinal. In a match that failed to pique the interests of those in the crowd, Cerundolo was on court for a mere hour and 13 minutes before sealing his third ATP final berth.
The Argentine won 6-3, 6-0 as he got the better of Norrie’s serve on five separate occasions even as he faced – and saved – one break-point.
This followed a first round bye for Cerundolo who was then advantaged by the retirement of Juan Pablo Varillas in the second round. Jack Draper managed to take a set off Cerundolo but the world number 28 managed to make a comeback and clinch the win.
This performance in Lyon follows a quarterfinal appearance at the Rome Masters last week, making it a 13-8 win-loss record for Cerundolo on clay for the season.

Fils Stuns Nakashima
Having received a quarterfinal bye because of the withdrawal of Felix Auger-Aliassime after his previous opponent Mikael Ymer had also been defaulted from their match, Fils went on to surprise American player Brandon Nakashima in a gruelling semifinal.
Fils was a 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (5) winner over Nakashima in a match lasting two hours and 54 minutes.
In a rather cagey encounter, both players lost their serve three times – including once apiece in the final set when Nakashima was down 2-4 but came back to push the set into a tie-breaker.
Fils had a match-point on Nakashima’s serve at 5-4 but eventually managed to win it off his second one in the tie-breaker.
Irrespective of the result of this match, Fils will be breaking into the top 100 of the rankings for the first time in his career next Monday. A win could take him close to the top 60.
