Angelique Kerber v Bianca Andreescu Head to Head

This is the first time that the two ladies are meeting each other on the tour.

Andreescu on the Verge of Making History

Bianca Andreescu, who was hardly a blip on the WTA radar last season, has quickly moved up through the ranks to become one of the most promising talents on the circuit. It is hard to imagine that a player, who spent most of the time last year on ITF circuit, could do so well on the big stage this season.

Andreescu came to Indian Wells with a win-loss record of 21-3 and now, she has improved it further to 27-3. Barring her first round fixture against Irina-Camelia Begu, she hasn’t dropped that many sets in the competition. She had a relatively simple run up until the quarters, moving past the likes of Dominika Cibulkova, Stefanie Vogele, and Qiang Wang.

Then, she faced her first major test against Bianca Andreescu in the quarters and she dispatched the Spaniard 6-0, 6-1. After that, she defeated Elina Svitolina in the semis in three clinical sets to reach her third WTA final of the season.

Earlier this year, she was the runner-up in Auckland and later, she won the 125K Series trophy in Newport Beach. She also played a vital role in taking Canada through to the next round in Fed Cup by defeating the Dutch side. The following week, she made it to another semifinal in Acapulco.

Kerber’s First Final Since the Wimbledon

Kerber, who has been struggling with her form of late, will be pleased to make it to the final in Indian Wells. This is her first final match since the Wimbledon last season; she won that Grand Slam after defeating Serena Williams in the final.

Since then, the German suffered a string of early losses and consequently, she dropped to the No. 8 place in the rankings. However, Kerber revived her form in Indian Wells on the back of a superb performance.

With a bye into the second round, she first defeated the likes of Yulia Putintseva and Natalia Vikhlyantseva. After that, she moved past the number 9 seed Aryna Sabalenka to reach the quarterfinal.

Over there, she faced a stiff test against Venus Williams and Belinda Bencic but came out unscathed with two straight-set victories. And now, she awaits the in-form Andreescu.

Before coming to Indian Wells, Kerber had a rather mediocre run in Dubai, Doha, and the Australian Open Series.

Angelique Kerber v Bianca Andreescu Predictions & Tips

On one hand, Andreescu is quite young and lacks the experience although, she has proven that it is not an issue for her. In Auckland, she defeated Carolina Wozniacki and Venus while in Indian Wells, she has already sent a strong message. At the same time, Andreescu isn’t entirely invincible, as shown by Sofia Kenin and Julia Goerges this year.

Kerber, who is now sailing high on confidence, will need to keep a sharp eye on Andreescu and not give her any room to play big shots. Keeping the unforced errors count will be a key here too. All in all, a terrific match at our hands.

Tip: Kerber to win a set: 1/4 (bet365)
