The two ladies have met only twice on the WTA Tour. Stosur has won both of those matches in straight sets, with her most recent victory over Rodina coming in the 2017 WTA Prague.
Stosur’s Disappointing Run on the Singles Circuit
The 2011 US Open champion and the former World No. 4 hasn’t had that good of a start to the season so far. With a win-loss record of 3-5, it is hard to imagine her perform exceedingly well on the tour at the moment.
Two of those three victories this year came in the qualifying round of WTA Doha while the remaining one came in the first round of WTA Sydney. Her tournament was the Indian Wells, where she lost her opening match to Madison Brengle.
However, as a doubles player, she has been quite good. She won the Australian Open Women’s Doubles title this year with Shuai Zhang, replicating her success in the Hong Kong Tennis Open from last season.
A Similar Tale for Rodina
On one hand, Stosur’s tally for the year so far is 3-5 while for Rodina, the same is at 2-6. She hasn’t won a match on the tour since the WTA Budapest that took place in February. Back then, she made it as far as the second round before losing to Irina-Camelia Begu.
After that early loss, she travelled to Indian Wells where she first played in the 125K Series event and then the Premier Mandatory competition. In both cases, she lost her opening match. Rodina also played in Guadalajara last week and once again, she lost her opening match – this time to Anna Blinkova.
Even though Stosur has had some sort of success in recent times, the same hasn’t been the case for Rodina. The only trophy she managed to collect was the runner-up one in the 125K Series event in Limoges last year. She also won the doubles title in the same tier tournament in Indian Wells this season with Kristyna Pliskova.

This is an evenly matched fixture where Stosur will be expected to win. She has the experience and has been in a slightly better form than her Russian counterpart.
