Ons Jabeur v Beatriz Haddad Maia Head to Head

They met once earlier at the highest level and one other time on the ITF circuit and Jabeur won both times.

Jabeur Routs Pera to Continue Solid Run

While Olga Danilovic had taken Jabeur to three sets in their third round encounter, the Tunisian number one had no such problems in getting past Bernarda Pera to move into the last eight stage of the competition.

In a match that lasted a mere 64 minutes, Jabeur carved out a 6-3, 6-1 win over her American opponent to make it to the quarterfinal of this competition for the first time in her career.

The Charleston Open champion this season, Jabeur had suffered an injury at the Stuttgart Open, withdrawn from the Madrid Open and then lost in her opener at Rome before coming into this French Open.

But the manner in which she has gone about her business would give her a lot of hope she can actually go the distance here.

What Jabeur will hope to also do is turn her serving woes around. In fact all four of the games she lost to Pera were on her own serve and while she herself broke her opponent eight times, this might not cut the ice against the sterner tests that await her in the rest of the tournament.

Haddad Maia Stumbles Before Scraping Through against Sorribes Tormo

Sara Sorribes Tormo had been fortunate to make it to the fourth round thanks to the withdrawal of Elena Rybakina from their previous match but she almost made that luck count when she saved three match-points against Haddad Maia and levelled things out at 5-5 in the final set.

Fortunately for Haddad Maia, she managed to find herself another break of serve in the very next game and then served it out in the 12th to win a gruelling fourth round encounter that lasted nearly four hours.

In winning 6-7 (3), 6-3, 7-5, not only did Haddad Maia become the first ever Brazilian on the WTA tour to go this far at a major in over five decades, she had also played the longest match of the season so far.

This also meant that Haddad Maia had improved her clay record for the season to 9-3 having earlier reached the quarterfinal stage of both, the Stuttgart Open (where she lost to Jabeur) and the Italian Open.

Can she put up a better showing against Jabeur this time?
