Alcaraz Sends Tsitsipas Packing

Stefanos Tsitsipas might have melatonin to blame for his lacklustre performance against Alcaraz but the simple truth is the world number one was way stronger than the Greek player. As has been the case throughout their careers.

In a match that lasted only two hours and 15 minutes, Alcaraz sent Tsitsipas packing 6-2, 6-1, 7-6 (5) to seal off his first ever semifinal berth at the French Open. And in doing so he set up a rather delicious meeting with the 22-time Grand Slam winner.

The first two sets were a breeze for Alcaraz, who needed just an hour and seven minutes to come through those. He broke Tsitsipas five times in this period and did not face a single break-point in return.

And when Alcaraz went 3-0 up in the third set, the writing looked to be on the wall for Tsitsipas.

In fact, down 2-5, Tsitsipas faced two match-points on his own serve, then proceeded to break Alcaraz in the next before facing another match-point in the 10th game of the set.

The Greek number one did thwart Alcaraz throughout that period but in the tie-breaker that followed, the Spaniard clinched the encounter to march into the last four.

Can he deliver a performance to remember again?

Djokovic Shrugs off Slow Start against Khachanov

Karen Khachanov hasn’t had much going for him against Djokovic in the past but he has been in some of his best rhythm this season and that showed early in their quarterfinal.

The Russian grabbed the first set on the back of a break of serve in the fifth game before clinching it off his fourth set-point.

And when Djokovic found it difficult to get the better of Khachanov’s serve in the second set as well, it looked like the Serb was in big strife especially given his fitness issues that have reared up every now and then.

The start of Djokovic’s turnaround came in the ensuing tie-breaker where he slammed Khachanov to love and then broke him in the very first game of the third set. He repeated the dose in the seventh game to take a two sets to one lead.

Djokovic went 3-1 up in the fourth set too, and while he lost serve in the eighth game, he went 5-4 up with a break of serve yet again. Four points later he had completed his three hours, 43 minutes long win.

Can he bring his A+ game against the world number one?
