Sakkari Hoping for Better Consistency

As far as consistency at this tournament in Nottingham goes, Sakkari has been quite so having featured here three times in the past and made the quarterfinal every single time. Unfortunately for her, she hasn’t gone beyond that.

What has been a bit of a surprise has also been her performance this season which has seen her fall from being ranked third in the world to her current ranking of eighth.

Sure there have been some sterling performances like the one in Indian Wells where Sakkari made the semifinal or when she was a semifinalist at the Madrid Open too but interspersed between all those have been a few early ousters too.

Sakkari’s performance on grass has been decent without being explosive.

She was a semifinalist in Berlin last year and won a couple of rounds at Nottingham and Wimbledon but would have loved to do a lot better than that. This could be a good chance to do that.

Wang Inexperienced on Grass

This is just the fourth season in which Wang will be playing on grass and hoping to win just her second main draw grass court match on the WTA circuit.

The first and the only match she won on grass came in Nottingham in 2021 where she won her opener against the little-known Martina Di Giuseppe but then lost in three sets to Alison Riske in the second round.

Wang failed to make the Wimbledon main draw that season and last year fell in straight sets at the season’s third Grand Slam’s opener.

This year, Wang had climbed to her career-best ranking of 49th on the circuit in January but since then hasn’t quite been able to replicate the same form. As a result she fell to 75th before a third round appearance at the Madrid Open and fourth round in Rome pulled it back a little for the Chinese player.

Can she put up a fight against Sakkari here?

Sakkari v Wang Prediction and Tip

Sakkari should come through this one and do that easily. Straight-set win expected.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Sakkari to win in straight sets: 8/11
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 20.5 games in the match: 5/6
